Printed pattern for raw edge applique using free motion embroidery. This is the 14th of a series patterns to make the ‘Life in the Town’ quilt. The block shows one of the attics. Boxes and crates are piled up high and spiders are making their homes. There is a fine chair, back from when it was all the rage to have legs carved to be like beetle legs. The present Lord Conkerly had them moved up to the attic as if he sits down in a chair, he doesn’t want to worry about ending up on the floor! There’s also a gilt framed painting of the fourth Lady Conkerly. She never had a good word for anyone, and they prefer her in the attic so she can confine her disapproving stare to the spiders! This block measures 8 by 12” finished size. I am expecting the full quilt to be approximately 42 by 60” and full of life in the town, both above and below stairs, and contain around 15 blocks. I’m currently playing with the idea of putting the outside of the house in the border so there was a little roof and chimney in the upper border etc. 😊 And I would dearly like to do a partner quilt with ‘Life in the Country’ with them living in a hollowed out tree.

This is the 8th block in what I hope will be a long series of 15 similar sized blocks, all based on life in a Victorian house, both above and below stairs. At the minute I'm estimating the quilt will be around 42" by 60" but I have a fair way to go before I can confirm that. I'm hoping to use the borders to build up a house complete with roof and chimney :) This block measures 8 by 12" finished (8.5 by 12.5" unfinished.)

This pattern contains the templates along with plenty of colour photographs through each step.
